PICTORIAL: Rehabilitated Awgu LGA Secretariat Heralds New Era Under Hon. Uche Okolo

The rehabilitated Awgu LGA Secretariat stands as a symbol of progressive leadership under Hon. Uche Okolo, showcasing a new era of modern governance and infrastructure renewal.

In a clear demonstration of responsive leadership and visionary governance, the Executive Chairman of Awgu Local Government Area, Hon. Uche Okolo, has embarked on a comprehensive rehabilitation and beautification of the Awgu LGA Secretariat. The renewed structure, with its stunning exterior and impressive interior front view, now reflects the true image of a modern administrative hub—efficient, accessible, and purpose-driven.

The facelift is part of a broader development strategy by Hon. Okolo to revitalize public institutions and enhance service delivery across the LGA. The ongoing remodeling of the Chairman’s Office, staff offices, and other key administrative units underscores his commitment to providing a conducive working environment for effective governance.

Beyond physical infrastructure, Hon. Okolo has also launched bold social impact initiatives. In a historic step towards ending open defecation, he recently flagged off the construction and distribution of 2,000 free SATO pan toilets, accompanied by the training of local artisans in smart toilet technology—a strategic move aimed at achieving total sanitation coverage in Awgu by the end of 2025.

Hon. Okolo’s development agenda aligns seamlessly with the vision of His Excellency, Governor Peter Mbah, especially in the education and agriculture sectors. In support of the Governor’s Smart School Programme, the Council Chairman initiated the construction of access roads to the Awgu Smart Green School and Farm Estates, alongside the erection of security posts, perimeter fencing, and solar-powered lighting systems to enhance security and environmental sustainability.

Furthermore, under his administration, Awgu LGA has witnessed notable progress in areas such as:
• Human Capital Development: Through youth empowerment workshops, vocational training schemes, and startup support for small-scale entrepreneurs.
• Primary Health Care: Rehabilitation of rural health centers and procurement of essential medical supplies for local clinics.
• Rural Infrastructure: Construction and grading of feeder roads, provision of boreholes, and solar street lighting projects across communities.

Hon. Uche Okolo’s inclusive and grassroots-oriented leadership style continues to earn him accolades from residents and stakeholders. His administration’s focus on transparency, accessibility, and developmental equity has positioned Awgu as a model for local governance in Enugu State.

As Awgu LGA enters a new era of infrastructural renewal and social transformation, the rehabilitated secretariat stands not just as a symbol of progress, but as a rallying point for all citizens to embrace the shared vision of a greater Awgu.

Hon. Tochukwu Chukwu
Special Adviser, General Media and Publicity to the Chairman, Awgu LGA
