The Enugu South Local Government Area has strongly denied reports circulating on social media alleging that protesters stormed the streets of Enugu to demand the release of Mr. Bright Ngene, recently declared winner of the Enugu South Urban rerun election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). In a statement, the Council described the report as “deceptive, erroneous, and a deliberate attempt to mislead the public while tarnishing the image of government.” According to the Council, no such protest took place in Enugu State, stressing that peace and calm have continued to prevail across Enugu South and the State at large, with residents going about their normal activities without disruption. “The matter concerning Mr. Ngene is purely a judicial process, and the Enugu State Government has neither interfered with nor delayed the ongoing legal proceedings.
