HON.PEDRO NWANKWO:Redefining Awgu with people oriented projects

With life changing projects spanning the length and breadth of Awgu local government, its executive chairman, Hon Pedro Okwudili Nwankwo has in the past 12 months reinvigorated the hope, love and belief in the need for sustenance of the local government system in Nigeria.


Nwankwo, popularly called “Ezeomeogo” since his election into office on February 29th 2020 has continued to reface the image of the council area in a government that Awgu people now tagged the New Face Of Awgu. 


This one year in office of the administration of Hon.  Pedro Nwankwo  in Awgu council has  been made possible by God, The Council Chairman is grateful to the Maker of Heaven and the Earth; the Executive governor of Enugu State, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Dr Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi  who has thrown his weight behind the leadership of all fronts; the wonderful support and result-driven ideas of the Stakeholders of Awgu Council; the synergy existing between the Executives and Legislature of Awgu council; the prayers of the Traditional Rulers and the Clergy, the party leadership and members and entire people of the council for their support and  involvement.



Indeed, Ezeomeogo is grateful to all and sundry for their understanding especially during the period of Covid-19 lockdown and for abiding by the protocols and guidelines during these most challenging times.  Despite the challenges of the time, Ezeomeogo led executive of Awgu had delivered in the following areas: – Completion of 3 classroom blocks, 2 office spaces for the School Heads in Unity Primary School Amofia; One-Youth-One-Skill Acquisition Program; Practical/Sustainable Empowerment of 300 Youths in Tailoring, Cosmetology, Videography, Shoe-making, Decorations, Web Designing, Bead making, Hair dressing/barbing, etc with tools/machines given to each of them for start-up and completion of Central School Mmaku Annex ( extension) building, Agugwu Ezioha Mmaku.


Others are Fencing/restructuring of NYSC Orientation Camp Awgu Enugu State of over 1600 metres (1.6km) in length; Construction of Omala River Bridge Ogboli/Ohaja Awgu ward I (this bridge is serving the three Autonomous Communities in Awgu Egbeleli – Ogboli Ọhaja, Adọgbalatọ and Ugwuleshi Community);  ongoing Construction of 2.38km Onoli-Obuovia road project with erosion control on both sides; Sponsorship of Gburugburu-Unity-Cup-Ezeomeogo-2020 to give Youths opportunity to exploit their talents through football and  ongoing construction of Awgu Local Government Chairman’s lodge.



Also on the list are ongoing renovations of Ogbaku Health Center – Ogbaku ward; Onolieze Community, Awgu ward II Rural Electrification Restoration; Completion of Installation of Solar light in Awgu Local Gov’t Secretariat/facilities and its environs; completion of Obodo Umuoye Erosion Control Network/Culvert – Agbogugu Ward; completion of Afọr Market hall Nenwenta – Anikenano/Ugwueme ward and Renovation of Awgu Local Government Secretariat.


There is the ongoing construction of Ultramodern Public Toilet/Urinary at Eke Mgbowo Daily Market – Mgbowo ward; ongoing  construction of Bridge at Amankwo/Agbani/Odume/Akpuoka Road – Ogugu/Ugbo/Owelli/Amoli ward; completion of  Construction of Culvert at Ọhaja – Awgu Ward I;  Construction of Culvert at Umuogba, IHE- Ihe Ward; completed Construction of Bus-stop at Madu-Akọ junction, Obeagu- Obeagu ward  and completed Construction of Culvert at Ugwu Village road Ezioka, Isuawa – Ituku/Isuawa/Agbudu ward  and completed Culvert at Umuhu, Ugwuleshi Awgu – Awgu Ward II;  Rehabilitation of Agric. Machines/Health Maintenance Vehicles; Awgu-Akịnụkwa road maintenance/grading; Roofing of Anikenano Development Center building;  Procurement of Truckload of Yam/Truck loads of Beans/Truck load of Onions (distributed) to cushion the effects of hunger during COVID-19 pandemic; Grading of over 2500 metres Odenigbo-Obushi Inyi road; Grading of Apama-Inyi Road; Grading of Agbada Ikem road Imama Mgbowo linking old Eke Mgbowo Expressway; Grading of Kpurukutu – Enugu Port harcourt Expressway; Sensitization/Awareness Campaigns/Distribution of health materials in all the over 34 communities in Awgu Local Government and Empowerment of the physically challenged persons in Awgu through JONAPWD.



The administration also sponsored Enugu Half Marathon where Awgu came 2nd and the International Youth Day in Awgu LGA; organised Primary Schools Quiz/Essay competition; rebuilt toilet facilities in Community Primary School Awgu ward II; Graded Onoli-Amovia-Enugu road; Graded Ekenwofia Street Onoli Awgu; Graded Chief Nwafor Mmadu Street, Amaja Onoli Awgu;Ululor-Ndiagu road, Awgu ward I  and Ohaja-Ogboli road Awgu ward I.


It paid six (6) months overhead arrears owed councilors before the emergence of EZE-OMEOGO’s administration; payment of 3 months outstanding arrears of monthly Overhead owed the Development Center Administrators by the Council before the emergence of his administration; paid the 2019 Leave allowance of Awgu Local Government Staff workers; Regular and prompt payment of workers’ salary in Awgu LGA and over 280 political appointees (mostly Youths and Women).


The Council under him produced over 30,000 units Protective Masks for indigenes of Awgu against the Covid-19 ; preventive materials and organization of awareness campaigns around the communities in Awgu council


There are other numerous projects/programs that the administration embarked upon that impacted on the wellbeing of the people of Awgu council area.


Indeed, Ezeomeogo, the Executive Chairman of Awgu LGA, has in the past 12 months distinguished himself as “Mr Projects”. This has reinvigorated the hope, the love, the position of Awgu people and their belief in Hon. Pedro Okwudili Nwankwo “Ezeomeogo” as the New Face of Awgu.
