Enugu state Agricultural Development Program (ENADEP) commences the registration of cassava farmers in Enugu State

Enugu State Agricultural  Development Programme, ENADEP has commenced the registration of cassava farmers in Enugu State. The exercise also involved the validation of farmers who registered with Cassva Grower Association in Enugu State.

ENADEP is partnering with Enugu State Farmers Association Forum, an umbrella association of farmers in Enugu State. Farmers can register online, at ENADEP Office, or at ENADEP Zonal Offices.

The objective of this exercise is to capture all the cassava farmers, the sizes of their farms, and the quality of cassava produced.

Recently, Enugu State Government announced the government policy to increase cassava production, targeting to cultivate about 100,000 hectares of   cassava. Since Enugu State has comparative advantage in cassava production, registering of cassava farmers will help to build a database that both government or private investors can utilise for planning and investment  decision.

With the success of this exercise,ENADEP is expected to continue partnering with Enugu State Farmers Association.

After a meeting which featured the Programme manger ENADEP, Dr. Onyeisi, the PRO Ministry of Agriculture, Chief Eddy Ugwu and The President of Enugu Farmers Associations forum , Hon. Giovanni Madubuaku.

They resolved that the registered farmers will be trained on the making of organic fertilisers. The training which was launched last year by Southfield Agro Network and ENADEP is expected to be conducted in all tje 17 LGA of Enugu state.

The training will enable our produce from our farmers to have high export value.

I was also resolved that after the registration they will proceed with physical verification of all the farms get the gps coordinates.

At the end of this exercise Enugu state will be able to determine the amount of cassava and other agricultural products available for both consumption and export.

We are urged the farmers to turn out and ensure they are registered as this will also help the government to know how many farmers in the state and how to attend to their needs.
