2023 GUBERNATORIAL ELECTION POLL: THE COALITION OF ENUGU STATE POLITICAL PARTY YOUTH LEADERS APPLAUD THE OUTCOME

There is no doubt saying that the 2023 general election came with intense competition amongst the various political parties that participated; the criticism, intrigues, machinations, scheming and permutations was at an all time high. This of course is the beauty of democracy where everyone is given the right and space to showcase their plans and vision for the people.

In a swift press conference organized and addressed by the Coalition Of Enugu State Political Party Youth Leaders on Monday 27th March, 2023 at Utopia Event Hall, Independent Layout Enugu. The Chairman of the Coalition and Youth Leader of African Democratic Congress (ADC) Gabriel Uchenna, appreciated the people of the State for the peaceful manner in which they conducted themselves during the electioneering process and even coming out en bloc to exercise there civic right to choose those who would govern them in the State for the next four years. His message reads;

We the members of this group have followed your career for years and was excited to read about your recent political victory. You have always impressed the people of Enugu State with your clear vision and ability to get the job done against all odds. We hope you will bring your expertise from the private sector to inspire our State by improving our public schools, health sector, infrastructure, road network, create wealth and jobs especially for the teeming youth population. Hon. Gabriel also in a congratulatory message to the candidate of Labour Party (LP) Hon. Chijioke Edeoga whom he described as a candidate of impeccable character, and the Hero of 2023 gubernatorial election in Enugu said, it time to bury the hatchet and work together with the Governor elect for the common good of the State. Gabriel eulogizes him further for putting up a good fight and making the election competitive unlike previous elections which was relatively one sided.

On his own part the Secretary of the group and Youth Leader of the Action Alliance (AA) Comr. Reality Okey Cosmas said that though there were some pockets of resistance of the electorate from voting in some polling units or areas in an attempt to intimidate the people and undermine the process by thugs sponsored by some enemies of due process. However, the 2023 Gubernatorial election is adjudged to be the most keenly contested, contentious but transparent election so far conducted in Enugu State since 2003. Comr. Reality Okey while congratulating the winner of the election Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) appealed for calm from youths especially ardent supporters of the LP Gubernatorial candidate, Hon. Chijioke Edeoga and members of the general public who are unhappy with the outcome of the election. He beckoned on them to accept the will of the people and embrace the spirit of sportsmanship. They should refrain from unnecessary utterances to provoke tension and thereby expose the lives of innocent people to danger.

He however urged candidates who are dissatisfied with the outcome of the results to follow the laid down procedures via seeking redress from a court of competent jurisdiction to reclaim their mandate if they feel otherwise. The vibrant and outspoken Action Alliance Youth Leader call on security agencies to be vigilant and proactive in order to prevent any unrest that might undermine public peace or course public tension in the State.

Comr. Reality also congratulated all the candidate who won elections across the various political parties and those who lost, saying; they are all soldiers of democracy. He further postulated that in every contest, a winner must emerge. And now that the winners have emerged, it behooves on the winners to be responsible, magnanimous and humane in service.

However to all Ndi Enugu State, we are all winners in this election and none is a loser. Each victory is a triumph for democracy and a call to the Enugu people irrespective of political party affiliation, to come together and rebuild Enugu State for the general benefit of all. We thank God for the new awakening and the collective agreement that Enugu State must be better, safer and greater.

On this note once again, I, on behalf of the Coalition convey our resounding congratulations to Your Excellency, the Governor-Elect of Enugu State, Dr. Barr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah. Your victory in the governorship election of Saturday 18th March 2023 is an express confirmation of your acceptance to preside over the affairs of Enugu State and restore faith, trust, and confidence in democratic government and rule of law. You are a man of Justice and your efforts to better our society shall never be in vain.

Other members of the Coalition present at the press conference include Dr. Chibuike Agu (BP), Emmanuel Ifeanyichukwu (APP),  Barr. Michael Ameh (PRP), Comr, Ochai Isaiah ADP,  Ugwu Martin Chiedozie (NNPP) Ekene Okeke (A), Omeje Sunday (AAC), Nkechinyere Odoh (APM), among others
