Politics of bitterness: APC's Nnaji and LP's Edeoga fingered in NYSC certificate saga as Mbah slams NYSC with 20 billion naira over conspiracy, misrepresentation of facts

By Ogbonna Nwamadi

Facts emerging from the National Youth Service Corps have indicted the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Engr. Uchenna Nnaji, and Labour Party’s gubernatorial candidate, Mr. Chijioke Edeoga as culpable in the recent disclaimer issued by the NYSC allegedly denying that the certificate presented by Barr. Peter Mbah, Enugu Governor-Elect, was issued by it.

It was gathered that in the build up to the general elections, the APC candidate had used his connection in Aso Rock through Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State to influence some unscrupulous and bad eggs in NYSC to disclaim Mbah’s certificate in order to ridicule and get him disqualified from the race which eventually failed.

The sources who disclosed this, said Nnaji had bribed his way into the NYSC and conspired with some of the senior officials in the guise of a directive from the presidency to allege that Mbah forged his certificate.

The sources further revealed that Mr. Edeoga saw the collusion as an opportunity for him to escalate the falsehood by also bribing the few criminal elements in the corps to insist that it did not recognize Mbah’s NYSC discharge certificate in order to aid his case in court having admitted before his supporters that he would likely fail at the polls.

Edeoga had earlier bragged that if he failed at the election, he would still mobilize the connection he had through his in-law, Chief Nnia Nwodo, and Prof Barth Nnaji, to settle judges and procure favourable judgment. This accounted for reasons he had been borrowing from different financial institutions, mortgaging with his choice properties in Enugu, Abuja and Port Harcourt which he purchased through the ill-gotten wealth he looted while serving as commissioner for Local Government and Environment under the PDP.

However, one of the sources said the NYSC authority was shocked when it discovered that the NYSC discharge certificate belonging to Mbah was issued by it and secretly sought way to settle the matter without dragging the body before the media to avoid embarrassment.

With Mbah slamming the NYSC with N20 billion naira damages for conspiracy and deliberate misrepresentation of facts, many staff who were indicted by investigation carried out by the Director General of the corps have been confessing that Nnaji and Edeoga were behind the criminal act, and should be arrested to face criminal trial.

NYSC had warned that heads would roll and criminally minded elements, including Edeoga and his APC’s counterpart would have to face the music and will likely end up in prisons as they’d be prosecuted.
