ENDSARS: Ondo Warehouse set ablaze by thugs

  Ondo State capital, as a warehouse containing undistributed COVID-19 palliatives was on Thursday set ablaze by thugs.  SaharaReporters learnt that some residents located the warehouse in Akure before breaking into the place. Various food items were carted away from the warehouse. A resident, Miss Toyin Ajeigbe, who witnessed the action, said the action of the thugs created pandemonium in the city.  She said, "Many people stormed the warehouse after they noticed that it was where the government kept undistributed palliatives.  "And you know the people are already hungry and angry due to the indefinite curfew in the state. "So, they break into the building and started bringing out food items such as rice, noodles and other items before some thugs set the warehouse on fire and this led to a heavy fight.  "I witnessed how they destroyed the building out of anger because the government refused to distribute the food to the people even when there is hunger." Fr. Mbaka's Adoration ground was not burnt -Spokesman

 Contrary to a viral video suggesting that the Catholic Adoration Ground Enugu, superintended by Rev Fr Ejike Mbaka was razed by protesting youths, the church said it’s not true. Mbaka’s spokesman, Mr Maximus Ugwoke who spoke with Vanguard said the story and video making the rounds were false and should be disregard. He said he suspected the story emanated from an online media practitioner based in Enugu whom he said has written a rebuttal and asked people to ignore the mischief. Ugwoke promised to make an official statement on the issue after consultation with the priest.

          Fellow Nigerians,   It has become necessary for me to address you having heard from many concerned Nigerians and having concluded a meeting with all the Security Chiefs.   2. I must warn those who have hijacked and misdirected the initial, genuine and well - intended protest of some of our youths in parts of the country, against the excesses of some members of the now disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).   3. On Monday 12th October, I acknowledged the genuine concerns and agitations of members of the public regarding the excessive use of force by some members of SARS.   4. The choice to demonstrate peacefully is a fundamental right of citizens as enshrined in Section 40 of our Constitution and other enactments; but this right to protest also imposes on the demonstrators the responsibility to respect the rights of other citizens, and the necessity to operate within the law.   5.   Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, on Friday, addressed youths of the state who visited him at the Government House, Enugu, to press further their demand for the #EndPoliceBrutality in Nigeria, lending his support to the state government’s position as earlier presented by his deputy, Hon. Mrs. Cecilia Ezeilo, on Tuesday, as well as the decisions of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum. Gov. Ugwuanyi who described the protest as a solemn moment for the country, called for prayers and a minute silence for the departed souls of victims of extra-judicial killings in the nation. The governor, who was accompanied by his deputy, Hon. Mrs. Ezeilo, commended the protesting youth for their peaceful conduct and urged them to remain law-abiding.
